Reconnecting with middle school obsessions: another week in my life

Posted on October 26, 2025October 26, 2025 by hailey.schopper

Hey everyone!

The days, and in turn, the weeks seem like they are flying by lately. It seems like time is slipping by without me even knowing it, and then it’s the weekend, and I am reviewing my week again. While school has been busy, I finally made some good progress on some assignments, so I’m feeling good. As per usual, it was a week filled with reading, YouTube, and tv.

Type of content consumed: YouTube, tv, books, music

YouTube

I didn’t watch quite as much YouTube as I have in the past few weeks, but reading vlogs were still a staple in my consumption. As per usual, I watched Peruse Project and Heather McLarry all week. Their vlogs are so familiar which is always nice to put on while cooking or cleaning.

Television

*spoilers ahead for Heartland (season 19), Dancing with the Stars (season 34), Survivor (season 49), Shadowhunters (tv show, season 1)*

Heartland

I really enjoyed this week’s episode as I felt like we are getting some major development happening with many characters and storylines. For starters, this frenemies relationship between Lou and Gracie is very interesting to me, so I am curious to see where the writers take their storyline. As well, we saw Katie practicing with the Rodeo Flag Girls, although it did not go as smoothly as she would have hoped. I look forward to seeing how her friendships grow with the girls, if she puts herself out there of course. Amy was having a tough go up in Pike River because of all the memories of Ty, so I think it will be interesting to see how she balances remembering him with her new relationship with Nathan. I absolutely loved seeing Ashley back in Hudson, and honestly, she’s so iconic for inviting herself and Caleb up to Pike River. Lastly, I’m curious to see how this Dex character plays out. It seems like he might have somewhat of a bigger role now that he is working at Heartland. I also find it so funny that this is one of the first times we meet a hockey player in the show because it takes place in small-town Alberta which is often hockey central. Overall, I am liking this season and I am interested to see how all these storylines continue on.

Dancing with the Stars

This week was so fun, but I was so sad to see Scott go home. He was one of my favourites, and while I recognize he hasn’t made as much progress as some other contestants, I had hoped Andy would go before him. While I love Andy, we all know he’s only here because of the fan vote and not because of his talent. I really hope we get people with the most talent to the end, it is hard to keep this show away from a popularity contest.

Survivor

For the first time, I watched the show as it came out, which was fun, but also means I watched it too many days ago to remember all the details. I was so disappointed to see Jason go home as he was someone I saw going really far in the game. Plus, I decided he was my favourite, so now that he’s gone I have to pick a new person. This week seemed like such a demanding challenge, and I’m really starting to feel for Sophi since she hasn’t won anything or had any real food since beginning the show. I am interested to see how next week goes, because if Hina goes to tribal again, I feel like she may be on the chopping block as the outsider.

Shadowhunters

I watched Girl vs. Monster on Friday because it’s a Halloween classic, and when I saw Katherine McNamara on the screen all I could think about was Shadowhunters. Of course it meant it was time for a rewatch. I’m a few episodes in to the first season and absolutely loving it. While I know this is not the best adaptation, I truly do love it for what it is. I’m having fun with it, and really, that’s all that matters.

Reading

The Last Man by Mary Shelley

I finished The Last Man and I’m pretty happy about that, honestly. While I don’t think I would have picked it up on my own, I enjoyed my time with it for class. It’s definitely interesting to think about how Shelley created the genre, and yet she challenged her own conventions throughout.

Soul Searching by Lyla Sage

I also finished Soul Searching this week, and I already need the second book. I devoured the second half of this book, and if it wasn’t for school, I would have read it so much faster. Collins and Brady were so good for each other, and I really liked getting to see them both get their spark back as the novel went on. Sage dropping that Clarke had an engagement ring on in a picture made me kick my feet, but I was also so disappointed when I realized we’re going to have to wait a while for the next.

A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness

I am only a chapter into this one, so I can’t speak on it too heavily, but so far I am enjoying it. It feels like the perfect book to read right before Halloween, although I know it’s going to take me longer than a week to finish. I am really looking forward to the witchy, academic vibes. As well, I’m hoping this book helps bring me back to magical realism and fantasy.

Music

Once again, I could not tell you what I listened to this week because it felt very much in the background this week. It was a lot of country music featuring Ella Langley, Morgan Wallen, and Warren Zeiders.

Thanks for reading everyone! Let me know what you consumed this week, and if you watched or read any of the same things I’d love to hear your thoughts. Check out my Instagram and let me know what you would like to see for me.
