Hey everyone!
Despite having less work than usual this week since my reading break starts tomorrow, I did not consume too much more media. It was a busy week in other ways, but overall a good week.
Type of content consumed: tv, books, music
Television
*spoilers ahead for Heartland (season 19), Dancing with the Stars (season 34), Survivor (season 49), and Over the Garden Wall
Heartland
I really enjoyed this episode because I felt like we got a lot of growth in multiple storylines. For starters, we learned more about Dex and got to see him and Jack bond. My mom and I were joking that Heartland loves a problem child and he’s the newest addition. I am interested to see if they are planning on keeping him involved long-term since he can no longer play hockey. Interestingly, Lou wasn’t in this episode at all which surprised me since her role has been larger in this season. I don’t know if it’s just me, but I feel like there are some interesting vibes between Lou and Gracie.
Dancing with the Stars
Unfortunately I couldn’t watch this episode live and I was spoiled about who went home. I did watch the episode later in the week so I could see how everything went down. I truly believe Danielle is a better dancer than Andy so it breaks my heart that she went home. While I do think Andy is having fun and is grateful for the experience, I think better dancers have gone home over him which sucks when it’s a show about dancing.
Survivor
Previous Week
I missed last week’s episode so I figured I’d cover it here. I honestly cannot believe Sage pulled that off without Shannon having any clue, but I think it was awesome. Sage has quickly become my favourite, so I really hope she makes it far. I’m excited for the merge because I feel like that is when you really get to see how people are playing the game. As well, the three tribe system creates too much separation in my opinion, so I’m excited to see all of the contestants mix.
This Week
The merge finally happened! I figured it was coming this episode so no real surprise there. Sophie winning individual immunity was a pleasant surprise because I feel like she’s had zero screen time at all. While I knew it last episode, I confirmed that like Sage. She’s smart and I am hoping she doesn’t get too comfortable because she is proving herself to be a threat. Nate going home wasn’t too terrible to me. I liked him, but he wasn’t my favourite, so I was okay with him going home this week.
Over the Garden Wall
This week, I hung out with some friends and we watched the entire season of Over the Garden Wall. Most of them had seen it before, but for me, this was the first time. It was a lot of fun, and I could definitely see myself rewatching it in the future. Wirt and Greg are the perfect duo who balance each other out in the best way.
Reading
A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness
I’ve read another 5 chapters this week, and I can’t lie, I feel like this book is taking me a long time. I know it is a longer book, but still. I am still enjoying and I am looking forward to see what happens. I like learning about the politics between the witches, vampires, and daemons and the world they exist in. The world building feels slow, but I know that’s because for her entire life Diana has wanted nothing to do with it, so we are slowly learning with her.
City of Bones by Cassandra Clare
I am about halfway through the audiobook and I am having so much fun. While I didn’t watch any of the show this week, I am still farther along with it than I am the book. This makes it interesting to compare the two. For example, in the show Clary and Isabelle are pretty friendly from the beginning, but in the book they do not get along well at all. As well, I find we see a lot more outward hatred towards mundanes by Alec, Isabelle, and Jace in the book.

The Woman of Colour by Anonymous
I finished volume 2 and therefore the novel this week and it was definitely a very interesting read. One thing I find fascinating is that most of the book is told from Olivia’s point of view which defeats a big point of the epistolary novel (having multiple perspectives). Another interesting thing about this novel is that the author remains anonymous today. It makes me think this novel was written by a Black woman, so it was safer for her to remain completely anonymous.
Music
Music was in more of the foreground this week compared to the past few. I had my music on shuffle and a song from the Legally Blonde musical soundtrack played. From there I listened to the soundtrack in full about three times this week. As well, I listened to other musical songs on shuffle, so I may be re-entering a musical phase for a bit here.
Thanks for reading everyone! Let me know what you consumed this week, and if you watched or read any of the same things I’d love to hear your thoughts. Check out my Instagram and let me know what you would like to see for me.
